Bridging the Gap: Navigating Resources in Philadelphia

It is crucial they have access to safe housing, nutritious food, clothing, and healthcare for students to be successful in the classroom. When families have stable support systems, students are able to focus, learn, and thrive in school. We have compiled a list of trusted Philadelphia-based organizations that provide assistance with housing, food, clothing, employment, and other essential needs. Whether you are a student, caregiver, educator, or community member, these resources are here to support you. 


Family Promise of Philadelphia connects families to local organizations offering multiple different services including housing support, financial assistance, childcare resources, and more. Families seeking assistance can complete the intake form under the “Get Help” tab on their website and a social worker will reach out to complete the rest of the intake process. Their website also has a comprehensive resource directory organized by specific needs, making it a great place to find targeted support. 


Philadebundance is a non-profit foodbank serving the Philadelphia area. Through their large network of community partners, they work to ensure families have reliable access to nutritious foods through shelter, schools, and senior centers. Using the “Find Food” feature on their website, families can quickly locate nearby food pantries and meal programs. 


St. Vincent De Paul Society is a community-based organization that offers services to individuals facing hardships. Services include housing and rental assistance, utility assistance, clothing and food. 


Cradles to Crayons provides essential items to children experiencing clothing insecurity. They offer children clothing, school supplies, and hygiene items. Families can access their resources by visiting their website and clicking “I Need Services" to be connected to local partners.  


Philly House is an organization that offers comprehensive support services to individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship. They are located at 302 N. 13th Street in Philadelphia, PA and they are open daily. They offer spiritual support via bile studies, behavioral health resources, legal services with the assistance of Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP), and job support through a partnership with First Step Staffing. They additionally offer medical services with JeffHope Clinic every Tuesday and bi-weekly foot clinics every other Thursday with Best Foot Forward Philly. Not only do they provide resources, but they offer warm meals every day of the year (Breakfast 7AM- 8AM, Lunch 12PM-1PM, Dinner 5PM-6PM).
